THE FLAT FOUR SAMPLE CHALLENGE!
Flat Four is issuing a challenge to lots of interesting artists and producers that we know - and to you too!
The challenge is this: Take the set of samples we're giving you, and put together a piece of music, or a radio piece, or sound art, using those samples. We'll play some of our favourite submissions on the station.
- You don't have to use all the samples - but use a good few of them.
- Feel free to manipulate or distort the samples, and feel free to use other samples and other sound sources. The samples need to be a significant part of the finished work, but they don't necessarily have to be the majority of what we hear.
- The length of the piece is up to you, but let's say we're expecting things between about 1 minute and about 10 minutes.
- Your piece could be music, or a radio play, or sound-art, or investigative journalism... surprise us!
You can download the samples as a zip file (it's about 8 megabytes), or you can access them separately here.
Ideally we like to receive submissions in the post, on CD/Minidisc/cassette (our address is here), but if you want to email us a submission get in touch and we'll tell you where to email it to.
Flat Four Radio will broadcast a selection of finished pieces - watch this space.
About copyright:
- The audio samples are free - do what you want with them.
- By submitting a piece to Flat Four you're giving us complete permission to broadcast, publish, or otherwise redistribute the piece via any medium, including internet radio and CD.
- You're also certifying that we wouldn't infringe anyone else's copyright by broadcasting your submission. That's really important - please don't submit things which remix/sample other people's work without their permission....
