diketo acids

An article from "The Molecules of HIV" (c) Dan Stowell

Diketo acids are one type of integrase inhibitor currently under development. "Diketo" means that the chemicals contain two keto groups in their molecular structure.

Remember that a carbon atom normally forms 4 bonds in a molecule. A keto group is a carbon atom double-bonded to an oxygen atom; this double-bond takes 2 of the carbon's 4 bonds, leaving two free to continue the "backbone" of the molecule.
